As C.S. Lewis once said, 'We read to know we are not alone.' But how do we create a space that reflects that shared experience?"
A bookshelf serves as the perfect solution. This piece of furniture not only offers practicality but also allows for personal expression, making it an excellent choice for home design. It enhances a room's decor while adding character and style. People can showcase their passions for literature, art, or travel. By organizing books by color, incorporating distinctive bookends, or using lighting like LED strips or small lamps to highlight specific areas, you can craft a cozy and inviting atmosphere. Ultimately, it becomes a reflection of your unique personality.
& Scientific texts
Scientific texts offer a solid foundation of knowledge across various fields, essential for anyone wanting to understand the principles behind scientific inquiry and discovery. By adding just a few key books, you can enhance your theoretical grasp of topics like fusion energy and recent advancements in nuclear fusion technology, which hold great promise for more sustainable and efficient energy solutions.
Colour - spectrum, striking, rainbow
According to an article published by tanic.design, a creative studio focused on hospitality design, “Color is the visual perception of different wavelengths of light. It is a property of light and, without it, we would not be able to perceive colors."
When light hits an object, some wavelengths are absorbed while others are reflected. The reflected wavelengths are what we see as color. For instance, white is often associated with calmness in Western cultures, whereas in Eastern cultures, it can symbolize loss. Conversely, the color red typically represents aggressiveness in Western contexts.
As noted in Rethinking The Future, quoting William Shakespeare,” Stars, hide your fires; Let not light see my black and deep desires.” The role of light in visual perception is vital, enabling us to interpret our surroundings. Upon entering a space, our eyes are the first to engage. Our brains process decisions based on what we see. In well-lit environments, our other senses are heightened, encouraging greater engagement and activity. Conversely, dim lighting tends to promote relaxation and lower energy levels. The intensity of light greatly influences our emotional and psychological states; brighter light is linked to more intense emotional responses, whether positive or negative.
Decor - plants, sculptures, artworks
ArchDaily emphasizes the importance of biophilic design, which strengthens the connection between people and nature in architecture. By using nature-inspired patterns, colors, and materials, it creates spaces that reflect a sense of place, often incorporating natural views. Biologist Edward O. Wilson describes this as our innate tendency to connect with life and lifelike processes.
User-Centered Design is gaining popularity, and this article examines it alongside human-centered design, sustainability, and innovations like smart home technology. Technology helps us understand user needs and behaviors, enabling iterative testing and feedback to align design with requirements. Integrating smart tech enhances convenience, comfort, and energy efficiency through direct interaction or voice commands.
"One only passes from the darkness of ignorance to the enlightenment of science if one re-reads with ever-increasing love the works of the ancients." – Peter of Blois

Put together the Colorful Frame & Brackets
The Structure of Scientific Revolutions by Thomas S. Kuhn explores how paradigm shifts influence scientific advancement and our understanding of knowledge. This book, along with others, is available as an eBook. Kuhn emphasizes the role of paradigms in shaping the narrator's theoretical perspective, while also considering the social dynamics within scientific communities that significantly affect the acceptance of new transitions.
Those not in favor have described this text as one which de-rationalizing the logic of science in an attempt to add sociological comparison. Proponents however say is it a remarkable text, shedding light on the real value of western science.

Another title worth mentioning would be the The Interpretation of Dreams by Sigmund Freud. In this work, the author writes more about the unconscious mind and how our thoughts and behaviors are shaped by our dreams. He describes unconscious thought as following a sequence of condensation, displacement, and symbolization.
Freud, the father and founder of psychoanalysis, significantly impacted various fields, including psychology, literature, and art. He deepened our understanding of unconscious wishes and desires and introduced interpretative techniques such as free association, which encourages individuals to recognize their thoughts and feelings.

Lastly, there's The Selfish Gene by Richard Dawkins, which offers a gene-centered perspective on evolution and introduces the idea of memes. I referenced this book in a previous post titled "The World of Memes in Digital Culture."
This book explores several ideas that have significantly influenced the field of evolutionary biology. One of its main arguments is the gene-centered view of evolution, which suggests that understanding evolution through the lens of genes, rather than individuals or species, provides deeper insights. Genes serve as the units of natural selection, primarily aiming to replicate through cooperation and competition—concepts that contrast with altruism and highlight interactions among individuals. While the book is praised for its numerous analogies, interpretations, and speculations, it is criticized for lacking sufficient scientific evidence to support its claims.

I have zero idea how to decorate anyting, so I loved reading about your approach. Everything my GF does feels like an installation, but I have no eye.
I don’t have a ton of decor on my walls. I really need to change that. But I don’t have a huge decoration budget.
It’s amazing how the right combination of books, decor, and meaningful items can transform a shelf into a focal point in any room!
I love it so much and I too like using shelves in my different rooms.... they create a cool look and add texture to the walls and space itself. I love placing pictures on them also.
My shelfs are filled with books and plants. I also like to add the odd Funko pop here and there and some pretty dried flowers.
